How to Present Work to Clients + Stay Sane in the Process

We get it, and everybody here can probably relate about this. Presenting work to your clients and garnering feedback that is actually helpful for finding your way forward is a process. And we’ve tried every way you could imagine to do so effectively and, therefore, keep our heads.

Over time, we’ve landed on a combination of Notion, Loom, and Markup. Our unique method saves us time, allows the client to really internalize what we’ve given them before providing feedback, and streamlines the response process into actionable steps toward a final product.

Notion —

We use Notion to house all our client projects, portals, files, tasks, and more. When we’re ready to present a brand or website to a client, we email them a direct link to their portal, which contains all the instructions they need to review our presentations, provide feedback, etc.!

  • Notion saves time answering FAQs and holds everything in one place instead of things getting lost between email threads.

Loom —

Instead of presenting anything to clients in real time either in person or over a video call, we present via Loom videos. This platform records your screen and optionally your voice so you can explain your design choices.

  • Instead of presenting in real time, Loom allows our clients to take in the presentation, review particular points as many times as they need, and think before providing feedback.

Markup —

We use Markup to collect feedback from clients. Instead of doing so via email, we use a simple platform where clients are able to “tag” specific portions of our presentations and provide notes and feedback as comments. We can also comment back, answer or ask questions, attach files, etc.

  • Markup attaches points of feedback to a visual reference, so we and our clients can understand one another more clearly, and houses all of our back and forth discussion in one place, so we’re not chasing down details in our inbox or on a long Google Doc.

What are you currently doing to present work and garner feedback? We’d love to hear what’s working for you! And if you give any of our above suggestions a try, we’d love to hear how it goes.
